TCIA was founded on December 16, 2003 with the support from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). It was registered and gained operation permit from the Ministry of Interior. The board member of TCIA includes 27 board directors and 9 board supervisors. The first Chairman of the board is Dr. Wu-Hsun Cheng (2003~2005), and second Chairman of the board is Alex T.T. Kuo (2006~2009).
TCIA is a non-profit organization to serve the chemical industries in Taiwan, that are based on chemical technologies, such as consumer products, electronics, opto-electronics, communications, bio and other advanced technologies. TCIA also aims to expedite the upgrade of the chemical industry and its downstream industries, promote industrial information exchange and effective resource utilization and increase added-value to products from the domestic chemical industry.
TCIA serves as a window for domestic chemical industry to exchange information with counterparts of foreign countries. It strives to become a global organization and operate on the international track. TCIA also promotes the integration of domestic resources and technologies as well as industrial collaboration. It is chartered to lead the transformation and shape the future for domestic chemical industry.
To persuade government into policy & legislation establishment for chemical industry development.
To promote industrial awareness and implementation of governmental policy.
To improve social and environmental image of chemical industry.
To represent Taiwan chemical industry in international events.
To promote cooperation among industrial upstream, midstream and downstream segments in order to strengthen global competitiveness.

The categories of membership are offered by TCIA.
Group Member : Organization (company, corporate), social group registered in Taiwan. Subject to approval by board of directors. Group member has two representatives to exert member rights.
Honorary Member : Group that has significant contribution to advanced industrial chemical technology or TCIA, nominated by at least one board director and approved by the board of directors, will be granted honorary member.
Sponsor Member : Group that makes a certain donation to TCIA and is approved by the board of directors, will be granted sponsor member.
